I travelled with Greyhound back in 2001 and 2002. NYC-Knoxville, Knoxville-Chicago, in the summer of 2001. Then, the next year: Kansas City - Knoxville, Knoxville - Niagara Falls, and Niagara Falls - Portland, Maine. All of those, 1-way trips.
Last trips were in 2006: NYC - Philly and NYC - DC, both round trips.

I'm from across the pond (France) and I must say that I keep excellent memories from Greyhound. This is a chance to ride with all kinds of Americans, and to see more of America that you would sitting on a plane. When it comes to safety, there really is not much of a problem. The only thing is to stay INSIDE the station when there is a layover. I was 19 in 2001, travelled on my own each time, and nothing bad ever happened to me. It's funny for me to look at the reviews for Greyhound: most Americans are like "oh, it's disguting, it's dangerous blah blah blah", and almost all French are like " it's totally fine and safe".
