Netflix and Newshour

Link du jour: Newshour with Jim Lehrer takes an in-depth look at the Voice of America.  I could have thought of a few more issues to raise, and a few more angles too look at some of the issues already presented, but all in all, this is exceptionally well done.  (And it’s cool to see [...]

Potpourri

Stratford, NJ I’ve given up on the song in the previous post.  Unless I have it on an old back-up CD, it’s gone from my consciousness. More importantly, I was watching Channel 6 Action News this evening (the Delaware Valley’s leading news program), and guess who was in Philly tonight! SANTA CLAUS! I couldn’t believe [...]

Save the turf!

Washington, DC As much as I like ice rinks, and as much as I like pedestrian districts, and as much as I normally hate astroturf, I think that, in this case, they’re going to get rid of a beautiful thing.  Is there such thing as too much planning? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/23/AR2006102301242.html Currently Reading The Prophet By Kahlil [...]

Half of young Americans can’t find New York on a map.http://www9.nationalgeographic.com/roper2006/index.htmlI missed four this year; I think that’s the worst I’ve ever done.  (How do you define “most fortified border,” and since when did prime-time TV shows measure [...]

Fun quiz

http://mensa-test.com/ I have 26 so far, but I am DETERMINDED! (I had a hint on #31.  Otherwise, I probably would have never gotten it.  I don’t think you will either, so I’ll give you the same hint I had.   Think: Commonwealth sports.)

Prometheus tree

Sometimes, when I get bored, I’ll spend an hour or two researching weird things online.  Tonight, for some reason, I started randomly searching for old trees. I found this.  Apparently some PhD student cut down the world’s oldest known living tree back in the 60s.  That’s just messed up.
