If you could meet anyone…

I’ve been getting a lot more comments than usual the past few days.  I’m not exactly sure why, but I’ll take it!

So, I thought I’d use this moment of popularity to try to play-up the interactivity of my blog by posing you a question:

If you could meet anyone, whom would you meet?

I know, I know; it’s a pretty stereotypical question.  But I think it’s a good one.

Me?
Well, it’s hard to pick one.  So, I’ll break it down into two categories: living and dead.  Then I’ll pick a few.  In a mostly-flexible order.

Living

  1. George W. Bush.  Just to get an insight into his mind.
  2. Mike Eruzione.  The Captain of the 1980 US Men’s Olympic hockey team was part of not only one of history’s greatest sporting upsets, but also unwittingly became a symbol of the cold war.  I love ice hockey, and I’m fascinated by how sports and politics so often mix (the Olympics, Summit Series, Bodyline Series, Gleneagles Agreement, Ping-pong diplomacy, Bosman ruling, etc.).  He’s the only athlete on my list, both because there are bigger things in the world than sports, and because I’ve been fortunate enough to meet many famous athletes already.
  3. the Dalai Lama.  For pretty obvious reasons.

Dead

  1. The Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama
  2. Jesus
  3. Muhammed
  4. Thomas Jefferson.  I admittedly know far less about TJ than I should.  But I do know that he’s the sort of scholar-leader who perfectly fits into the concept of a “republic.”
  5. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
  6. Benjamin Franklin.  A true renaissance man.

Most of those need no explanation.

(I picked more dead people than living people because there are more dead people than living people.  I think.)

Yes, I know my lists are pretty much stock answers.  But it’s true.
(And I apologize for picking only men.)

What about you?  If you could meet anyone, whom would you meet?  Living and/or dead?

Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hmm let’s see — definitely (assuming they’d be candid with me):

    - JFK, just to know what he kinds of plans he had for the country
    - Gandhi, to find out what his true goals were
    - Ben Franklin, to learn about all his inventions that didn’t make it big
    - Einstein, just for the first hand stories of escaping the Nazis, and of what the true “eureka” moments were like

And to all of them, I’d ask them what they feel about the world today, politically (wars, etc) and technologically (the internet).

  2. Great list, Ashish!

Anybody else out there want to give it a go?

  3. lindsay lohan because she’s hot.
nick swardson cuz he would be fun to drink with.
chuck pahlaniuk cuz im sure he’s not very interesting at all but i like his books.

i dont really want to meet anyone huge and famous for any real reason cuz i dont have anything to say to them anyway.

  4. Georege Clooney because he is hot and single.
Ellen DeGeneres because she is funny and down to earth.
Bill Gates because he is intellectual and gives back.
Delilah because I have been a long time listener and she feels like a friend.
Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno can still always make me laugh.

  5. In specific order after #1
    Jesus Christ
    Walt Disney
    Jackie Robinson
    Mother Theresa
    Gandhi
    MLK
    Neil Armstrong
    Pope John Paul II
    Lance Armstrong
    JFK

  6. Paul Stanley
    Gene Simmons
    Ace Frehley
    Peter Criss
