ALEXANDRIA, VA, USA
Hey folks,
In case anyone out there in Internet-land was wondering, I arrived safely here in the DC area at around 11:30am. This is my fifth trip down since I moved back in NJ last November. It’s also the shortest, busiest, and most spur of the moment. If you’re in town and I didn’t tell you that I’d be here, I’m sorry. I only found out Tuesday afternoon that I’d be coming down at all, and I’ve been kind of busy.
It’s been a nice time so far. I spent the afternoon and evening at my old office. I primarily wanted to see my old friends and coworkers, but I also let it be known that I’m available one day a week or so should they need any help part-time. There seemed to be some interest in that, so we’ll see how it goes. I hope something works out.
This evening, I went to the DC United soccer game with one of my friends. We were playing Mexico’s CD Guadalajara, aka Chivas, in the Copa Nisan Sudamericana. DC United is the only US team to ever play in the South American cup, and this is the second time they’ve done it. (I was in DC the last time they played in this tournament, but I had to teach my English class on the day of the game.) I’ve been wanting to visit for a while, but the game is the reason I picked today to come down. It was a great game from start to end, with a great atmosphere, and we won 2-1. (MLS really doesn’t get enough respect.)
I’m staying with a friend tonight. Tomorrow, I may be meeting friends for lunch, and I may be stopping by my old office for a while. But it’ll be back to NJ before I know it. For better or for worse.
It’s so surreal; in so many ways, it feels like I never left. But then you realize that some appearances can be deceiving.
Definitely a whirlwind trip.
