I don’t know if it’s just me, or if this happens to everyone. But, frequently, when I hear a song, my mind has a little bit of a flashback to the first time I heard it.
It’s hardly conscious; more often than not, I’ll be totally preoccupied or busy doing something when a song will come on, and I get this very vivid picture of some other time.
Last night, I was sitting here listening to music and playing a video game (thanks, Slickdeals! Free is better than $20!), when I decided to listen to Barenaked Ladies Are Me. I was totally focused on the game, but when the first track came on, it felt like last October. (Ok, maybe the air conditioning being on had something to do with that, but still!)
I didn’t even think about it; I just got this vivid picture feeling of waking up at 1am and putting that CD in as I got ready to head into work for my 3am shift.
As rough as that month was, it was still a nice memory. I guess it’s easy for anything in the past to be “the good old days.”
Anyway, that happens to me fairly frequently, so I just thought I’d share.

Nice. Music for me always bookmarks specific moments in time for me. Some happy, some… not so much. But music is one of those things that touches a persons soul without them really even being aware of it.
Yup. There are some songs or bands that I can’t listen to, because they remind me of something sad.
That happens to me a lot too. Whenever I listen to “Stunt” I’m always back in 8th grade getting ready for High School and state exams. ^.^
I’ve always had musical flashbacks but whenever I’ve asked other people if they get them, they’ve always said no! Glad to know there are others out there! lol Listening to cds is like a trip down memory lane
