What the hell happened to NJ?!

This time last week, I had just touched the Pacific Ocean for the first time.

Today, I spent the afternoon emptying Lake Horner out of my grandmom’s basement.

Just to recap, while I was gone:

  • Don Imus lost his job because of his comment about the “nappy-headed hoes” at Rutgers, New Brunswick.
  • The governor got into a car accident and is in critical condition.
  • A guy from Mullica Hill got shot at Virginia Tech.
  • The state cried out for an Arc, but Noah never came.

I honestly can’t remember the last time NJ spent this much time in the national spotlight.
We were half-expecting to see the National Guard drafting guys for a war of secession from North Jersey on the Walt Whitman Bridge last night as we rolled back into the Garden State.  But we only saw about 8 cop cars.

While we were in California, we kept joking about how Matt and I left NJ for a week, and how the shit hit the fan.  We weren’t sure if they’d ever let us leave again (because we kept the peace), or because we left the state during it’s time of need.

Well, whatever the case was, NJ had its vengence.
Yesterday, I was enjoying sunny Southern California.

Today, my mom and I were working in my grandmom’s basement/lake.

Fill the shop vac with water.  Empty the water into a trash can.  Carry the trash can upstairs.  Dump the trashcan in the back yard.

When’s my vacation?

(I promise to have my actual vacation recap up soon, but, in addition to having A LOT of water in the basement, I have A LOT of pictures to sort through, and I’m not exactly sure how to best handle pictures on my new website.  I’m learning).

Link du jour:  Interesting article about dollar stores.  (Thanks, Mom!)
