I didn’t even see it coming until Tuesday.

I was just looking back through some old website postings that I made when I was in Europe when it hit me: garybutterworth.com is three years old!

Not the xanga, mind you, (and let’s be thankful for that…garybutterworth.com has sucked since it’s been on xanga), but my website in general.  Most of the old stuff is still at http://web.syr.edu/~grbutter.

Yes, I know, once again, I’ve let this thing stagnate.  It’s kind of a shame; one of the coolest things about keeping a site like this is to look back and see what you were doing on the same date in the past.

  • In late March, 2003, I just launched my webpage, which had yet to turn blog.  Syracuse was doing well in the tourney, and I was working hard (or, more likely, procrastinating hard by building a website) after getting back from spring break in Missouri.
  • This time in 2004, my time in Strasbourg was ticking down far too quickly.  My spring break, which I expected to be a dissappointment, managed to be a hit, and I was busy-ish with school and an internship.
  • In 2005, I was half-way through my sentence at a job I didn’t like.  I had recently met a cool girl, and I had also recently bought my first cell phone.

In 2006, the webpage still exists, although it’s not very good.  Syracuse stunk up the tourney, and I still find time to procrastinate.  Sometimes, I miss Strasbourg, and I’m annoyed at myself for not giving myself a spring break (I was planning on a week in California, but I decided against it).  I’m wishing more than ever that I could spend a week in Switzerland.  I have an intern (from Syracuse!) whom I found to work with me at a job I like.  I’m still with said cool girl, and I still have that cell phone.

I don’t think anyone reads this anymore.  But my website has had boring periods before, so hopefully it’ll be back to something decent in its fourth year.  Two posts in a week…maybe I’m rebounding now.

What’s coming up?  Dustin’s getting married in about 8 weeks, and I’m taking 2 days off!  The timing works out almost perfectly, since mid-May is halfway between my annual day off on January 1…it should break up the year pretty well.

This weekend, I’m going to the University of Maryland for a baseball game.  I’ve never been to a college baseball game before, and I’m looking forward to that.

Hopefully I’ll have updates here.  Stay tuned….

  1. hey man… i think that people do read your website, but most of us are stricken with the terrible infliction of internet voyeurism…

have fun at the ballgame… eat some cracker jack, and hopefully, you’ll pull a real treat from the bottom of the box.
