MARLTON, NJ
So, after 9 hours and 3 busses yesterday (yes, there were a few tense moments, but this time the Centro didn’t let me down), here I am back in NJ. It’s pretty much the same. I got into my dad’s around 7pm last night.
After dinner last night, I had absolutely nothing to do. I’m just not used to that. I kinda felt like going somewhere, but of course I cancelled my insurance a while ago, so I couldn’t drive anywhere. My brother was going to hang out with some of his friends, so I decided to tag along with him. He’s 17. I guess you could say that’s kind of sad, but I’d much prefer “ironic.”
Anyway, we drove back to Blackwood to pick up one of his friends. Then, at around 10:30pm, we went to Chuck E. Cheese’s. Now I have to tell you, last night I learned far, far more about my brother and his friends and what they do for fun than I would have ever wanted to know, but Chuck E. Cheese was still a lot of fun regardless. It was closed, but my brother works there, so they let us come in and we pretty much had free reign of the place (with unlimited free tokens) for over an hour. I must have pumped the equivalent of several dollars into the street luge game, which I thought was the coolest thing ever since I worked in the pit area of the street luge course at the 2001 ESPN Summer X Games in Philadelphia. It was good times.
We got back to my dad’s late, but I decided to stay up for a little while and play my X-Box. It was a going away present from one of the people I intered with this summer (along with a digital video camera–yes, I know, I had the best internship ever!), but I gave it to my brother because I simply can’t allow myself to have video games at school because they would consume my life like they did 2 summers ago when I got GTA 3, NHL 2002, and Sim City 3000. So I finally got to play my X-box and I finally got to play NHL 2004. I was really, really looking forward to that game. But like my brother, I was hugely disappointed. It has teams from 3 European elite leagues, which is just beyond cool, and some of the details, like the ice getting choppier as the periods progress, are really cool, but the gameplay is just…lacking. And some things just don’t make sense. Why can’t I play an exhibition game between an NHL team and an SM-liga team? It just doesn’t make sense! As cool as NHL 2004 is, 2002 was a much more fun game (and not just because it featured music by Barenaked Ladies!). It’s not that 2002 was an arcade game and this is a simulation. I think that’s what I’m making it sound like. Maybe that might be a very small part of, but I like both types of games, so there’s more to it than that. 2002 was just…better.
So I guess over the semester break I’m going to have to go out and buy some new games. Prince of Persia looks really cool, but I think that might just be because everyone I worked with this past summer was from Iran.
This morning was something else. My brother was in the running for homecoming king!
Glen actually IMed me right after the homecoming dance several weeks ago to tell me that he had been elected to the homecoming court, but when I was at Highland the court and the King/Queen were both named at the same time, so I was happy for him, but I had just assumed that he had already lost the race for king.
It wasn’t until I got home last night that I found out that now they name the King and Queen at halftime of the Thanksgiving football game (which I think is a good idea). I just wish I would have found that out sooner so I could have campaigned for him here on my website.
Anyway, I got up at the crack of 10 this morning and made it to Highland just in time for halftime. It was kinda weird, actually. I really didn’t know anyone on my homecoming court, but I think I knew all of the male members of my brother’s court through him. In fact, all but one of them played against me in the Butterworth Classic this past summer. We just hang with different crowds, I guess. But I was still impressed. Even though there were 8 friends or so all running against each other, there didn’t seem to be any hard feelings.
Much like our football team, Glen lost. But I still thought it was pretty cool that he was on the court, and he really didn’t seem to care too much. That makes him part of homecoming royalty! (Yes Dustin, you should bow). And if nothing else, he was the only person who’s shirt color matched his tie color matched his hair color. hehe.

I might add some more pictures once I get back to school. Here I’m stuck resizing in mspaint and uploading on a dial-up. ugh.One last thing–If anyone wants to go to the Philadelphia Phantoms AHL game tomorrow night in Philly (in the Center, not the Spectrum), let me know. I have work so I can’t make it myself, but I can probably get a bunch of free tickets. Drop me an email or stop by SkateZone and I’ll see what I can do ya for.
Now, it’s off to my Nan’s for dinner
